When we think of detoxification we think of detox drink and what can be better than smoothies as they are delicious too. In order to detox the body, we need to choose the right foods which can remove all the toxins from the body while providing required nutrients. Here are few smoothie ideas you can try to detoxify your system.
1. Berry Smoothie
Berries are rich sources of antioxidants and you know very well that antioxidants are those that fight against free radicals to prevent cancer. These are very helpful in the elimination of the body toxins easily. Moreover, berries are also rich sources of fiber. What else do we need? Choose from a wide range of berries like blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, etc. Not just cancer prevention but they also have anti-inflammatory properties. To satisfy more you can add coconut milk which consists of some fat. How to make it?
You will need 1 ½ cups berries (blueberries, blackberries, raspberries), ½ cup coconut milk, ? cup rolled oats and 1 cup purified water.
Blend all the ingredients in a jar into a smoothie like consistency. While choosing the berries, make sure to get organic and don’t forget to wash them if not frozen.
2. Kale Smoothie
Kale is the new spinach, isn’t it? You might be already using in salads and as side dishes; munching them on regularly can also detox your body but to give it a small change let’s make a smoothie with it.
You will need a handful of kale, ½ an apple and 1 cup of coconut water.
Cut off the stringy and hard ribs which run down the middle of the leaf if the kale is curly because it doesn’t get blended easily leaving leaf bits. Prefer baby kale over these leaves if possible. Now blend all the ingredients together into a smoothie.
3. Ginger Spice Smoothie
It is easy to find and store ginger root especially if you want to detox then these are very handy. Ginger is known for its cleansing effects on the digestive system and it helps to ease bloating and gas. It breaks up the congestion effectively. In addition to detoxification, ginger can treat many such disorders. Ginger awakens the taste buds and gives a refreshing feeling. If you combine it with cinnamon then this will give added benefits of anti-inflammatory properties adding some spiciness to the smoothie. Here we are using spinach but you can also try other leafy veggies like kale.
You will need a nub of ginger root, 1 tsp cinnamon, a handful of spinach and a cup of purified water.
It is important to not leave bits of ginger while blending. So, since the root as much as possible else you may have to chew the bits of it while drinking the smoothie. Blend all the ingredients and make it into smoothie-like consistency.
4. Cocoa Smoothie
If you are a chocolate lover, you will love this smoothie. You can add chocolate to your smoothie but just make sure to choose the right one. This will taste like a blend of strawberries in some chocolate. We won’t use any refined sugar to this but honey which consists of digestive enzymes and the antioxidants from chocolate and strawberries will do their job. However, as we are going to choose dark cocoa it is important to know that it consists of antioxidants which are absent in regular cocoa. So, choose wisely.
You will need 1 tbsp dark cocoa powder, ½ cup coconut milk, ½ cup strawberries and a cup ice.
Like any other smoothie, blend all these ingredients together into a smoothie and have it.
5. Green Smoothie
What can beat green vegetables? If you are someone who likes to munch on green veggies then this is for you. These days green smoothies are at rage and craze and even Mayo clinic recommend it. This is loaded with vitamins and minerals; if you don’t want all the herbicides and pesticides used then prefer organic for leafy vegetables.
You will need ¼ cucumber, ½ handful spinach or kale or any other green leafy vegetable of your choice, ½ avocado, a celery stalk, 2 2 sprigs of mint, 1 kiwi, ½ an apple, a squirt of lemon and 1 cup of purified water.
Blend all these ingredients together in a blender. Prefer organic cucumber and do not peel them if possible for added nutritional benefits.
6. Morning Smoothie
This will make you ready for the day plus it is loaded with foods with detoxifying properties in them. Drink it in the morning as a meal to get maximum detoxification. Moreover, it will give you required carbs and proteins which makes it a balanced meal.
You will need ½ cup orange juice, 1 tsp turmeric, a scoop of soy protein powder, some vanilla flavor and a cup of purified water.
You can prepare this in a shaker bottle or a blender. You just need to mix all these ingredients together.
