How Many Calories for a Man

The number of calories to be consumed by men and women differ to some extent. The calorie consumption also differs based on the physical activities a man is involved in for instance a man who has a regular office job and is required to sit in front of the computer for most part of the day needs to consume comparatively lesser amount of calories than a person who has a field job. Men who are involved in tougher physical activities are required to consume even greater amount of calories as most calories consumed by them are burnt in the physical tasks and the body may run short of the required calories. Height and age are also other factors that determine the number of calories a man should consume.

An average man should consume 2,500 calories a day to maintain his weight. These calories should be spread evenly over the three or five meals that he consumes during the day. However, if a man is trying to reduce weight then it is suggested to consume 500 calories less than the amount mentioned above and if his daily work activities are more than the usual than some more calories need to be consumed based on the kind of activities he is involved in. It is said that consuming anything between 1700 to 2500 calories a day can help in keeping a man fit; the amount may vary to some extent depending upon the tasks a person is involved in.

However, in any case a man should not consume less than 1500 calories a day as doing so would not give the body enough energy to carry out various functions. It would also affect the person’s health adversely over a period of time. Along with the right amount of calories a person should also consume the other essential nutrients to stay fit.
